Philadelphia-Based Marketing Company Adds to Growing Trend of Minority-Owned Businesses

Philadelphia — Maiden Media Group (maidenmediagroup.com), a strategic creative marketing company, announces it has received certification as a minority-owned business with the Philadelphia Minority Business Enterprise Council (MBEC). The MBEC works with the Philadelphia business community to build internal and external alliances with minority businesses, the city of Philadelphia, and private industries. The MBEC was established in 1980 to ensure that minority business owners are afforded equal access and opportunity to compete for and secure contracts within the city of Philadelphia. As part of its role, the MBEC promotes economic development through its certification program; contract review and monitoring activities; as well as ongoing interaction with other city Departments, quasi-public agencies and the local marketplace.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of minority-owned businesses increased by 45.6 percent to 5.8 million between 2002 and 2007, more than twice the national rate of all U.S. businesses. In addition, the number of women-owned businesses increased 20.1 percent during the same period. The total number of U.S. businesses increased between 2002 and 2007 by 18 percent to 27.1 million.
