Two of the Indian biggest banks in Trouble because of Deficiency in Service

Press release from: Akosha.com

SBI, State Bank of India was in trouble because it allowed unauthenticated withdrawal of money via ATM machines even after complaint of a client and prompt blocking of his ATM card. Mr. Sashi Bhusan Gupta from Hoshiarpur found that thirty two thousand, nine hundred and forty rupees were withdrawn from his account via unauthenticated ATM transaction. Due to this, he immediately reported SBI and got his ATM blocked. Anyone would expect prevention of unauthorized transaction after informing the authorities and getting ATM card blocked via bank. So did Mr Gupta but contrary to his expectation even after blocking ATM card a total of twenty four thousand and fifty rupees were withdrawn via same ATM card in two more transactions.

After this he reached consumer court and filed complaint against SBI. Consumer commission held bank to be guilty for deficiency in service and asked SBI to payback the amount twenty four thousand and fifty six which was withdrawn even after complaint of account holder and nine per cent interest on the same amount from the day of money being withdrawn along with five thousand rupees as compensation for the litigation expenses. This incident alarmed all the ATM card holders that even after getting the ATM blocked there are chances of losing money via illegal transactions. Hopefully this decision of court will make banks realize that they should be fulfilling their responsibility cautiously.

In another incident Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered citi bank to pay fifteen lakh to an account holder for a grave fault. When you deposit your money in any bank you feel that it is safe. When you share any confidential data with the bank you think it will only be between you and the bank. What if bank starts sharing your confidential information with your enemies? What if your private account goes public? You must be thinking, no it can never happen. Bank will never do such a crucial crime. This is exactly how Mr Amit thought till the day when Citi bank shared his confidential info with one of his personal foe. When he realized the truth, he was in shock that how a reputed bank with huge market credibility can indulge into something like that.

Mr. Gupta reached Delhi State Consumer forum for justice. Bank contented number of arguments in its defence but all went in vain as the documents and details provided by the complainant over took all those arguments. The person held liable for the leakage of information was Mr Hemant Kumar. Court directed Mr Kumar to pay fifteen lakhs to the complainant for disclosing his private bank details to someone else.
Well, the mistake was extreme and so the punishment had to be of similar intensity. This decision was taken in order to make every organization realize that such illegal activities can have extreme harmful financial impact on them. It went like a warning and signal to all the banks and affiliated employees to never divulge information about any client with anyone.
