California Artist Michele Pred incorporates new cell phone technology with art in Los Angeles Gallery

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — July 29 2007 – Artist Michele Pred will be unveiling her latest work at the Red House Gallery in a group show in Los Angeles, CA. The new piece utilizes Semacode, a program that allows cell phones to read barcodes in order to link the user to an encoded URL. The cell phone included in the interactive art piece will grant the viewer the opportunity to scan an artist customized bar code. The buyer will receive the Nokia internet capable phone in addition to the print of the bar code. Pred thanks Semacode for their technical support. Semacode is a high-tech company located in Waterloo, Ontario. The company develops and commercializes technology to read barcodes with mobile phones.
Code switching is a Quorum San Francisco exhibition. In 2005 Michele Pred founded Quorum SF, an art collective of Bay Area artists, curators, critics, and art dealers whose main goal is to generate and support intellectual community. . www.quorum-sf.org

Michele Pred is a conceptual collage/installation artist who works with recycled, confiscated and found objects that are imbued with cultural and political meaning.
Her work has been reviewed and featured by The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, ARTnews, Art in America, Associated Press Television, CNN, MSNBC (Keith Olbermann), The San Francisco Chronicle, Corriere della Sera (Italy), TV4 and Dagens Nyheter (Sweden).
Her artwork has been exhibited in museums, galleries and fairs in London, Stockholm, Bologna, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the di Rosa Preserve in Napa, CA and is held in numerous private collections.
Michele Pred received her BFA from the California College of the Arts, where she is currently an adjunct professor. She is represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York .
