Tina Wendon’s Impressions of the Inner Psyche at Agora Gallery

01-24-2013 04:41 PM CET | Arts & Culture

Press release from: Agora Gallery

In her ethereal and finely detailed style of portraiture, Tina Wendon develops an expressive realism of air and mood, bringing to light a faithful interpretation and a sense not just of the subjects’ physical characteristics but of their innermost life and emotions. As she creates her works in oil paint on canvas or linen with occasional elements of mixed media, Wendon creates an illusion of reality, applying thin layers of pigment to build her portraits of the inner psyche. The artist’s touch across the surface is soft and deliberate, giving an atmospheric quality to her brushstrokes as the texture beneath is allowed to rise through the wash of paint. While Wendon’s process of composition is restrained, focusing solely on those details most necessary to create her images, the result gives a tangible and clearly recognized impression of the individual.
Raised in Cambridge, England, Tina Wendon has built a strong reputation as an artist over the past twenty years, with works appearing in numerous exhibits and publications. She now lives and works in Berkeley, CA.
