DW Simpson Publishes 2012 Actuary Salary Survey

Experienced Actuary Salaries Continue to Rise, Entry Level Hires Gain Momentum

DW Simpson Global Actuarial & Analytics Recruitment has published the industry leading Actuarial Salary Survey for over a decade. In the 2012 Salary Survey, we have continued to see an upward trend in Actuarial salaries for Actuaries with 2+ years of experience.

Property & Casualty Actuaries continue to see the highest salaries, and account for the largest number of new hires. Health Actuaries have seen the largest one year increase in salary and available jobs; mostly due to regulatory changes in the healthcare market. Hiring in the Life Actuarial market has picked back up after a brief decline in 2009, though salaries remained on the rise throughout this period. Pension Actuaries account for the smallest segment of new hires, but have seen steady salary increases at the senior level. The Entry Level Actuarial market remains highly competitive, with a widening range of compensation. The good news for Entry Level Actuaries is the number of new hires has dramatically increased over previous years, when entry level hires were at a virtual standstill.

In 2011, DW Simpson added two new elements to our salary surveys - Graphs and Trend Lines. These new graphs allow you to see all of our data, which is then condensed into three simple formulas for Base, Bonus and Total Compensation. Our New 2012 Actuarial Salary Survey contains 16 new graphs that segment out Casualty, Life, Health and Pension Actuaries based on Entry, Student, Associate and Fellowship career levels. These graphs are helpful with visualizing any segment of the Actuarial workforce, whether it is a Casualty Actuary with exactly 8 years experience, or Student Actuaries between 1 and 4 years experience.
