Richard M. Bonner appointed as new Chairman of the European QP Association – Ulrich Kissel from Roche new Board Member

The European QP Association, the voice of close to 2.000 Qualified Persons (QPs) from across Europe and beyond, announced today that after successfully heading the QP Association since its foundation in July 2006 Dr Bernd Renger has decided to step down from his position as a chairman of the Advisory Board. Richard M. Bonner has been appointed as the new Chairman and succeeding him as new member on the Board will be Dr Ulrich Kissel from Roche in Germany.

Richard M. Bonner, who also has been member of the Board since the Association’s foundation, said: “I’d like to thank Bernd for his commitment throughout the last six years. And I’m looking forward to working with the others on the Board to help further advance our organisation.”

Mr Bonner is currently located in the UK and works as a freelance Qualified Person and consultant to the Pharmaceutical Industry. Previous to his current role he was a Senior Quality Adviser for Eli Lilly and Company. He has 31 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry working in production, technical services and both Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions.

Dr Renger headed the organisation since its foundation in July 2006. He was one of the major drivers for developing activities and advanced it significantly. Today, the Association is a well respected organisation throughout industry, by industry organisations and authorities, providing valuable services and support to its members. “We already accomplished a lot, and I enjoyed working with a great team on the Advisory Board”, Dr Renger said. “But there’s still plenty to do to realize our goals.”

Starting his career at Hoechst AG as a research and development chemist, Dr Renger has held several quality positions at Mundipharma, Altana Pharma and Baxter before joining Vetter Pharma-Fertigung where he was at last Director of Quality Control. In 2011 he left Vetter to start his own consultancy business. Dr Renger will remain “Immediate Past Chair” and will continue to support the Advisory Board still bringing in his long-time industry experience.

Succeeding as new member on the Board will be Dr Ulrich Kissel from Roche in Germany who joined the Association’s Board as a nominated member earlier this year. Dr Kissel, who is a German pharmacist, has more than 15 years of experience in the industry and covered a variety of roles in quality control and quality assurance as well as strategic logistics and product and technology strategy in manufacturing. He will strengthen the industry side of the Board.

The European QP Association is an interest group of the ECA Foundation (please see www.eca-foundation.org for more detailed information). It was founded in July 2006 with the goal to provide QPs in Europe with a platform allowing them to exchange experience, discuss the latest regulatory requirements, to identify and address difficulties and challenges and to support a harmonised European approach. By today, the Association counts close to 2.000 members from across Europe and beyond (from close to 40 countries).
To accomplish its goals the Association developed a number of activities: the online discussion forum for members is used to exchange information and experience as well as for discussing current issues and challenges. The results from surveys conducted among its members have become a recognized source of information for authorities, industry and other industry organisations. The annually organised QP Forum is today’s meeting point for European QPs and is as well recognised as other education courses and conferences organised or supported by the Association in Europe and in the US. A Good Practice Guide summarizes the responsibilities and duties of QPs in Europe and shows the various national requirements for becoming a QP. The exclusively developed shared audits database “QPSHARE” supports QPs in finding and contacting potential partners for sharing audits.
