Android – the favorite mobile operating system for ICT-experts?

While iOS and especially Android gain market shares steadily, RIM, Symbian and Windows Phone still are fighting very hard.

Android leads the German mobile-OS market
A recent published Comscore-survey has proved that Googles operating system Android hold the reins tightly in the German market. With 50,1% market share, more than half of all Smartphones in Germany run with Android. On the second place but far – Apples iOS keeps a constant powerful market share of 21%. In comparison to Androids meteoric rise, the former mobile market leader Nokia has made a symmetric downward development, having left a market share of 17,6% only.

Mircrosofts Windows Phone 8, which was anticipated to be the long-desired turnaround, occupies 5,8% of the market recently. Tail light of the ranking is RIM with 2,4% market share. The survey refers to the number of actual Smartphones in use. To receive an impression about which Smartphone operating systems are used by IT-experts, the international ICT-project platform freelancermap.com has conducted a survey on 332 freelancer and self-employed workers. But the results of this survey do not match the trends on the general German market entirely.

How the experts surf while on the move
Indeed 108 participants (33%) and therefore the majority of the interviewees indicated to use Google OS Android. Nevertheless another 105 respondents (32%) named Apples iOS as their preferred operating system. Accordingly there can be no talk of a distinctive gap between Android and iOS as on the total market. Windows Phone is running the devices of at least 67 participants (20%). Pretty much as at the total market, RIM’s Blackberry OS takes the last place of the ranking with not more than 17 votes (5%). 35 of the interviewees indicated not to use any of the named mobile operating systems.

IT-experts seem to both appraise the advantages and recognize the disadvantages of the leading operating systems Android and iOS in order that both can look at huge user groups. But also Windows Phone convinces a range of private user due to its strengths and besides its weaknesses. Perhaps this shows up a slight uptrend on which Microsoft as well as Nokia relies on, at least till the launch of Windows Phone 8. In contrast, RIM seems to be interesting only for a small amount of users. The attraction of the operating system and its applications are comparable, but maybe the Blackberry 10 will bring some new impulses next year?
