Nathan Claire Group and iKaaz announce mobile payments partnership for Africa

The Nathan Claire Group, a leading pan-African technology company has announced a regional partnership with Bangalore-based iKaaz for the sales and support of the iKaaz unified m-commerce platform.

The innovative iKaaz platform leverages on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and low cost NFC-enabled mPOS devices. NFC tags stuck on the backs of mobile phones can be linked to bank accounts, mobile money account or any stored value account (SVA), allowing banks, switches and payment processors to offer a payment processing service that bridges mobile money and the traditional POS schemes, and earn revenues from the millions of transactions that they may have otherwise been excluded from.

According to Soma Sundaram, founder of iKaaz, there has been overwhelming interest from both financial institutions and merchants since the recent launch of the iKaaz platform. Chibuzo Ene, Group CEO at Nathan Claire stated that “iKaaz has the potential to change the way certain businesses are conducted. Due to price and convenience, mPOS devices can be issued to small shops, public service vehicles, newsstands and even pizza delivery bikes. This platform solves problem of how to bank such businesses.”

The iKaaz platform supports NFC, Android, iOs, J2ME, IVR, USSD as well as SMS, and addresses shortcomings found in other payment platforms. Customers can be on-boarded in about a minute by mobile money agents, banks, merchants, or from an SMS message initiated by the customer. The platform offers configurable transaction types, fee structures, and various ways of incentivising merchants and stakeholders.
