Chic Teak Supplies Commemorative Bench to England Cricket Captain Andrew Strauss
Basingstoke, United Kingdom (12th September, 2012) – Chic Teak, a leading supplier of outdoor garden furniture, have been commissioned by the Middlesex County Cricket Club to supply a commemorative bench to former England Cricket Captain Andrew Strauss to celebrate his 100 test appearances.Andrew Strauss, who has played for Middlesex CCC for his entire career, also skippered his country in 50 of his 100 tests. His last test was against South Africa at Lords on the 16th of August.
Angus Fraser, Middlesex CCC MD of Cricket, knew of Chic Teak as the bench supplier to Lords and asked if they could supply and carve a similar bench to celebrate Andrew Strauss and his illustrious career.
Strauss was England's third-most experienced captain and the second-most successful behind Michael Vaughan, with a record of 24 wins from his 50 matches at the helm. He also led the side to home and away Ashes triumphs during a run of victories that saw them crowned as the world's number one team for the first time since the rankings were introduced.
The large 240cm, 6-seater Riverbank bench was intricately hand-carved with over 200 characters covering details of the numerous tests in which he skippered including Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh and India.
Chic Teak Managing Partner, Robert Bowden, commented: “The bench took nearly 50 hours to hand-carve and gloriously depicts the tests he skippered, representing a wonderful chronological record of his career which we hope will take pride of place in his garden for many years.”
