Press release from: Hamburg Dockers Australian Football Club e.V.

The end of the 2012 AFLG season – A lot of talent, with plenty more to come …

After an exciting 2012 AFLG Season, the Dockers finished the year on an unfortunate 3rd spot on the ladder and missed out on the Grand Final only due to percentage. The last game of the season was won in a thrilling last quarter, defeating the Munich Kangaroos on their home-ground – leaving the Dockers as the only team to do so in 2012. Munich ended up grabing the 2nd spot on the ladder, beating the Rheinland Lions in the Grand Final and became 2012 AFLG Premiers. However, the Dockers’ comeback in the last quarter against a dominant Munich side at the last game of the home-and-away season highlighted again how much more talent and courage this team has to offer, leaving all club members and supporters in good spirits for a new and fresh start into the 2013 AFLG season. As new players arrived at the club already and new fans started showing their support over the last weeks, the Dockers stay positive with a bright future ahead of us.

Award and Presentation Night 2012 – Honour to those who deserve it

On September 28th, the Dockers hosted their Award and Presentation Night at the Glöe Restaurant St. Pauli. Before going into the Club’s votes, the Best & Fairest votes of the AFLG committee for the 2012 were called out, including eleven different Dockers players collecting votes, lead by Jon Hunt (7), Casey Woodward (8) and Oliver Kelsey (11) with the title staying in Munich though. For the Dockers intra-club Best & Fairest competition in 2012, it turned out to be a close one with 22 players in total collecting votes. In the end, the 2012 Hamburg Dockers Best & Fairest award was won by Jon Hunt on 29 votes, with follow ups Oliver Kelsey (25) and Casey Woodward (17).

A race nearly as close turned out to be the case for the 2012 Guts & Determination votes with Oliver Kelsey taking home the award (29 votes), followed by Jeffry Lashi (23) and Marcus Drexel (12). As the night progressed, there were more awards to come: For the coach, it came down to facing two tough decisions when having to pick the Best First-Year Player as well as the Most-Improved Player. In the end, it was Jeffry Lashi who well deserved to take home the award for Best First-Year Player and Robert Banas being awarded Most-Improved Player in 2012.

The last two awards of the night included Best Clubman and the newly introduced Hamburg Dockers Community Award, recognizing committed actions and endeavour for the club throughout the year. The award for the 2012 Best Clubman, being awarded in respect of extraordinary efforts towards the development of the club was handed to Martin Krey with the Community Award going to Anne-Karen Hepke and Thomas Girnth.

This year’s Award and Presentation Night has been supported by several individuals from the community as well as Boost Juice Bars Hamburg. We thank you for your contributions!
