Coinciding with the celebration of Well-being Week
organized by the World Health Organization, Patricia Caicedo launches her new book We Are What We Listen to: The impact of Music on Individual and Social Health, an exciting journey to discover the ancient relationship between music and medicine and to understand how the brain works when we listen and make music, learn the
relationship between rhythm, movement, and health, between pleasure, emotion and music and the many ways in which music improves our physical and mental health, slows down the aging process, increases creativity and produces happiness and a sense of purpose in life.

According to Caicedo, who, in addition to developing a brilliant international career as a soprano, is a doctor in musicology and in medicine: “writing this book has been an exciting process in which I have reflected my experience as a performer and my passion for research, joining for the first time to my two loves, music and medicine. I have made a great effort to write it in an accessible and clear language without losing the scientific rigor ”.

The book consists of ten chapters and an exercise book in which the author invites the reader to move from theory to practice. The chapters include such interesting topics as music and cognition, music and creativity, music in pain and death, rhythm, movement and health, pleasure, emotion, and music, and a chapter dedicated to the voice in which Caicedo reflects his experience as a performer.

UNESCO in 1949), I have dedicated myself to safeguarding every individual's fundamental right to access music by explaining its values. I can’t think of better help in this quest than with the very inspirational book written by Patricia Caicedo. It gives us confirmation on the many benefits we have felt that music has given us but without understanding how.”

Edited by Mundoarts Publications, the book is published in Spanish, English and Portuguese. It appears at an ideal historical moment when more than ever, we are aware of the importance of promoting and preserving health at an individual and social level.
