It comes as no surprise when one tunes in to economic news that things aren't as bright as we'd hope. The constant drum-beating of misery doesn't help our enthusiasm either.

So then who can explain the increasing entrepreneurial spirit and comradeship among British business, in particular those of a small size that are seeking to grow, but finding financial management a pain akin to watching all the re runs of Die Hard that are constantly on TV (and I love Bruce Willis).

Could it be blind ignorance or could it be absolute bravery in the face of adversity?

Perhaps it is somewhere in the middle, mixed up with a few other spicy ingredients...

Perhaps we should take a look at a small selection:

1) British Values:

Britain might be the rainiest place on earth where the sun comes out about 0.5 days per year, however Britain had reached such unparalleled innovations and triumphs in its rich history that it can never be ruled out of re-emergence as a global economic powerhouse, especially seeing as the people of Britain still emanate grace, courtesy and the basic determination to always do the very best they can.

This same determination can be seen written upon the faces of thousands of business owners all over the UK - and they make a lot of noise about taking their business forward. Do not be fooled by the message of a welfare system gone wild etc as this will shift your own judgement into a state of complacency. We are fighting for business and so should you!

2) British Culture, Openness and Diversity:

In some corners (perhaps very dark and intellectually drained corners) of the media there is a message of a decline in Britain that seemingly we are unable to recover from. This perception must be challenged and put to bed.

The reality is that Britain enjoys such a wide diversity of business leaders who are widely acknowledged thought leaders in their respective fields and this would not be possible if it wasn’t for the forward thinking, dynamic British citizens that sought to promote business growth every step of the way – no matter who run by.

This style of acceptance has in turn allowed Britain to diversify its portfolio of the services industry in particular, where it is no secret that some of the world’s most innovative ideas have originated from outside Britain, but still fostering a kind of engagement which allows both the foreign owned companies and domestic customer base to engage in a manner conducive to a win-win situation for all. Take your local curry house as but a simple example of a foreign import turned into a national cuisine and relate this concept to companies such as TATA, employing many within the UK.

3) British Proactivity:

The ever increasing numbers of business leaders participating in networking events, social media and active community engagement is encouraging because it shows how even in a tough economic climate the spirit of positive action doesn’t diminish.

We are a more connected world and we are more connected business world here in Britain. Organisations such as 4 Networking and The Business Growth Show help to bring Business Owners and leaders together in a constructive environment. These organisations are also going from strength to strength, attracting more visitors and members. Explain how this can happen in a country with no confidence?

4) Simple blind ignorance!

Most of us do not want to drown in negative emotion, so ironically knowing less can sometimes be better for you.

Do not allow yourselves to believe stories in the media and be negatively influenced by those seeking to destroy confidence, because they know just as well, if not better than the rest of us: Digging deep and staying strong over the long term will reap greater rewards as not everyone will do it, but those that do will be considered legends among businesses and by default be trusted as those internally strong enough to warrant your business.

“If you really look at the ones who ended up being successful in the eyes of society and the ones who didn’t, often times it’s the ones that are successful who loved what they did so they could persevere when it got really tough. And the ones who didn’t love it, quit, because they’re sane, right? Who would want to put up with this stuff if you don’t love it. So it’s a lot of hard work, and it’s a lot of worrying, constantly, and if you don’t love it, you’re gonna fail. So you gotta love it, you’ve gotta have passion.” STEVE JOBS.

The Business Growth Show, Central London will be held on Friday 2nd November 2012 at etc. Venues in Victoria.
