Maharashtra rejoices in the celebrations of Ganeshotsav – ‘Bappa Morya Re’ with IBN Lokmat

Lord Ganesh, the elephant headed God, son of Shiva & Parvati brings together friends and family each year. His blessings are invoked at most religious ceremonies and important events in life; he is Vighnaharta - the remover of all obstacles to success. He is Dukhaharta - the giver of fortune and can help to avoid natural calamities. He is also known as Sukhakarta which means the god who brings prosperity and happiness, which everyone strives for in life. Gajanan is the herald of auspicious beginnings and is the beloved deity of all Maharashtrians. This festive occasion, IBN Lokmat has come up with a lineup of engaging programmes alongwith live coverage of the utsav for its viewers in the form of Bappa Morya Re Tune in to IBN Lokmat, everyday from the 15th – 29th of September 2012 to watch all the celebrations.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the 4th day of the bright half of Bhadrapad. This festival marks the birthday of Lord Ganesh. As a build up to this religious occasion, there are a series of stories lined up for the preparation of the Ganeshotsav. Eco-friendly Ganpati’s is the norm these days, with various mandals and families opting to go this way. This build-up show will provide an insight into this new initiative. In a special episode of Anolkhi Ganpati, mythological and unknown stories of this lord will be showcased. As part of Naivaidhyam various kinds of offerings are laid before the deity, which will be exclusively covered.

The Mudgala Purana gives eight Inner Avatars of Ganapati. These avatars can be understood to symbolize abstract qualities which triumph over similar personifications of evil and weakness. The Vakratunda, Ekadanta, Mahodara, Gajanana, Lambhodara, Vighneshwara, Vignaraja, Dhumravarna - all these demons are famously known in Hindu thought as the Inner Enemies, and represent the qualities that one needs to get rid of, as one grows in the life spiritual. They are in a real sense obstacles, and Ganapati is the best qualified to remove obstacles from any life

On 5th, 6th and 7th day of this festival, It is believed that Gauri, Ganesha's sister come home to visit her brother. This woman centric occasion in Marathi houses is celebrated by inviting married daughters to their parents place, cooking food for Gauri which is a very elaborate menu, etc. All over Maharashtra this celebration touches the women's heart. IBN Lokmat will take women-celebrities to visit Gauris in a few families in Maharashtra. These celebrities will grace the Gauri-function locally in the form of 'Gauri Yeti Ghara'.

To add to it, throughout the eleven day celebrations, Bappa Morya Re Live will bring to its viewers unprecedented coverage at 8:30 pm from across the country. This is an attempt to capture and showcase an all-encompassing and pan-national account of this vibrant festival, so zealously celebrated by the people of Maharashtra.
