Five Rivers MetroParks Chooses Power Equipment Solutions to Deliver Hybrid Gas/Electric 4x4 Utility Vehicle

Five Rivers MetroParks is a publicly-funded parks management district in Montgomery County, Ohio that manages over 15,000 acres of land and provides world-class outdoor recreation opportunities to the residents of southwest Ohio and beyond. But with a mission explicitly focused on conservation and land stewardship, they faced a potential dilemma regarding their need for a new maintenance utility vehicle: They wanted something that was clean and quiet to promote sustainability and environmentally-friendly energy sources, but they needed a heavy-duty vehicle that was capable of doing very hard work in extremely hilly, often remote, and difficult terrain. Their gasoline-powered options were too dirty and noisy, but their electric-powered options were incapable of meeting the workload challenge.

This brand new model uses a 650cc Subaru gas engine to drive the rear wheels and an electric motor to drive the front wheels. These sources can both be used separately in 2-wheel drive mode or together to create 4-wheel drive capability. In electric mode, the vehicle is clean, quiet, and super smooth - perfect for use on busy park trails so as not to disturb park visitors or wildlife. In gas mode, the vehicle is very powerful (making 22 horsepower), can travel long distances over difficult terrain, and can even be used to recharge the electric batteries. Hence the perfect combination of electric finesse and gasoline-powered grunt.

Power Equipment Solutions further customized this vehicle to suit the needs of Five Rivers MetroParks by equipping it with a black hard top, folding front windshield, "S-model" extended steel rear cargo bed with integrated flip seat, front cargo rack, KFI winch, rear view mirror, and their unique swinging door enclosure that enables the vehicle to be operated comfortably all year round in virtually any weather conditions.
