The Journal announced its list of finalists on September 6.

As the Triangle Business Journal explains, the CIO awards are meant to recognize and honor executive-level technology professionals who exemplify innovation in the development of technologies that create new business opportunities, drive growth, and streamline processes. Winners will be announced at a luncheon at Raleigh Marriott City Center on October 18, 2012.

“It’s a true honor to be counted among the high-caliber list of finalists selected by the Triangle Business Journals’s CIO Awards,” said Smith. “As someone who is passionate about the power of data and technology to pioneer new solutions for businesses and consumers, the award’s focus on innovation is especially gratifying.”

Smith, who joined 3 Birds as CTO in 2010, arrived with fifteen years of successful IT consulting and engineering experience. For eight years, he worked at Acxiom as a developer, analyst, architect, and manager, a job that took him all across Europe and Asia as he provided expertise in database solutions and developed customized technology solutions for global Fortune 1000 clients. After leaving Acxiom, Smith helped develop technology systems for Edgewater Technology and Transamerica Worksite Marketing, resulting in eight-figure savings. He has also done extensive work with customer marketing and customer relationship management technology that has enabled increased client revenue through data-driven e-marketing and direct mail campaigns.

As 3 Birds’ CTO, Smith leverages his combined love of data, consulting, and development to guide the growth and refinement of the software that drives 3 Birds’ cutting-edge marketing solutions.

“We are incredibly proud to learn that Chad is being recognized for the high level of innovation and expertise we already know to expect from him,” said Kristen Judd, President and co-owner of 3 Birds Marketing. “The success of 3 Birds’ solutions begins with our intuitive, high-functioning, and industry-leading software, and Chad plays a huge role in making those technologies a reality.”
