Minimalism is very trendy right now but this does not mean that you cannot look for other options. Scandinavian interior design stands out as one of those styles that cannot go out of style. However, creating the décor is not as easy as it might first seem.
This is a style that is very popular because it does adhere to our natural tidy tendencies and our wish to live in a comfortable and inviting setting. With this in mind, if you want to give it a try and create Scandinavian interior design, consider the advice below, thanks to the curators at:
http://www.truehometips.com/
Using Natural Light
In Scandinavian interior design, we see a clear use of minimalist color palettes, striking modern furniture, and very cozy accents. With such a combination, you need to play with the natural light you use inside a room. This is actually a very hot commodity in all Nordic countries. Without proper use of natural light, it is very difficult to end up with a polished look.
Add Contrast
One of the beautiful hallmarks of this style of interior design is high contrast. For instance, inside an all-white dining room, you can easily add some black sculptural furniture elements. This would create an impactful and dramatic statement. When you use modern furniture, you can also create a high contrast with some ornate architectural details, like what we often see in the historic buildings that are so common in the northern part of Europe.
Use Mod Furniture
Mod furniture is very important in Scandinavian interior design, even in the newly constructed contemporary spaces. Swan chairs and tulip tables can be warmed up with the use of rich leather tones and blonde-wood accents. You can add some sculptural branches too in order to create a feeling of organic space.
Use Muted Colors
Scandinavian style is very forgiving and you can easily add your own twist to it. For instance, you can add a table lamp on top of a mirrored cube. Use muted colors like sage, ivory, and taupe. Then, complement the entire design with the use of olive branches, brass bowls, and some black-and white photographs. This would serve as the minimalist decorative accents that tie up the entire look.
Don’t Forget To Make The Space Cozy
Danes always try to actively incorporate cozy elements in décor. Comfort and coziness are very important for them, which is surely also the case for you. When designing a small space, it is particularly important. You can easily let an unmade bed pushed up right against a window. Then, separate sleeping areas with curtains. This would occupy a large part of the available space but it does add a lot to the coziness factor.
Mix Different Textures
Let’s say you design a living room with muted gray tones, clean-lined furniture, and very simple elements. This would make everything feel uninviting and cold, which is not at all welcomed in Scandinavian interior design. Solve this problem by adding some photography and textures. For instance, you can add a kilim rug and a sheepskin throw.
