BIS sleuths seized huge amount of MCB’s as part of Search and Seizure operation in Delhi

New Delhi: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized huge amount of MCB’s manufactured in Gali no-3, near Pradhan office, Naresh Park, Nagloi on Friday. The ‘Search and Seizure’ operation was carried out with the help of local police. During the operation, it was found that factory was manufacturing MCB’s without license which was not allowed according to MCB quality control order. This was violation of quality control order by government of India, which makes it mandatory for a manufacturer to have BIS license if he wants to manufacture MCB, as it is a product under mandatory certification.

MCB is a life saving equipment. Electricity-related mishaps are generally caused due to increase in load so using such MCB will create massive threat to lives .The amount of MCB’s seized makes it one of the biggest such operations in recent years in Delhi. This offence is punishable under BIS Act 2016 which includes fine or imprisonment up to one year or both. The Act also provides for forfeiture of any property in respect of which contravention has taken place. Legal action, including launching of prosecution against the offender is being initiated by BIS.

From time to time, BIS cautions the general public, in their own interest and advises the public to be vigilant while purchasing ISI marked products since large quantity of spuriously ISI marked products are being continuously pushed into the markets by unscrupulous elements. BIS has also launched an App wherein information about varieties of products covered under the BIS and its licensees are available. In case of any misuse of ISI mark is detected and reported to BIS, prompt and timely action is taken by the Bureau for carrying out search & seizure operations and launching prosecution against the offenders under Sections 11, 14(6) or 14(8), 15, 17 of BIS Act, 2016.
