State of Georgia May Save Money and Lives on May 12th

Press release from: FireGator™

Georgia has been installing Automatic Fire Suppression Systems on special needs school buses, long before the NTSB recommendations came out in 2019. The recommendations state that all school buses in service should, at minimum, have an Automatic Fire Suppression System to address engine fires. The NTSB made these recommendations due to a tragic accident in Iowa where a student and the driver lost their life. Georgia is one of the very few states, even since the recommendations, that are being proactive.

School Bus fires occur more often than we think. The DOT reports 1-2 a day here in the US back in 2016.. With Tier 4 emissions getting recently established on school buses, this number could be a lot higher now. ONE district in Houston reported 187 in the recent 2 years. Georgia is being proactive and installing AFSS on all special needs buses.

The State of Georgia School Bus Spec Committee approves what AFSS can be used on these buses. They are meeting on May 12th to review and hopefully, approve a system that will save the State of Georgia a lot of money.

FireGator™ completely redesigned these, once complicated systems, to make them simple to operate and install. The systems that Georgia uses now have a higher initial cost and require more maintenance than the entire 10 year lifetime of a FireGator™ system.

The NFPA, that sets the guidelines for these systems, includes a manual activation switch—that some of the systems Georgia is using now, allows buses to opt-out of to lower cost. The FireGator™ systems follow all NFPA recommendations for optimum performance, and do not have to leave important components out to be affordable.

FireGator has designed an Automatic Fire Suppression System that is affordable and effective.
