Britain’s wounded Servicemen are set to receive a fundraising boost from people hiring the new Help for Heroes kilt thanks to the country’s largest hirewear provider ACS Clothing and a host of the UK retailers who will be offering the kilt for hire.

The world’s largest kilt hire supplier has teamed up with some of the UK’s best-known High Street brands to ensure that a donation of £4 will go straight to Help for Heroes every time a customer hires an outfit in the service charity’s official new tartan. Youngs Hire at Debenhams and Suit Direct, Burton, Slaters and Greenwoods have signed up to the scheme in addition to the independent networks of Cameron Ross and Ultimate Formal Hire, which means that the kilt will be available in over 1,000 outlets across the country.

“We’re tremendously honoured to be able to play a part in providing wounded Servicemen and women with the support they need. Given the sacrifices these brave people have made on our behalf, coming up with a way that both honours their contribution and provides help in a very practical way was the very least we could do,” said ACS Clothing Chairman Joe Freedman.

“The designers have worked closely with Scotland’s finest weavers to create a distinctive and attractive modern tartan that offers something a bit different from the traditional plaids and we expect that it will prove very popular,” added ACS Clothing Managing Director, Richard Freedman.

Every time one of the new kilts is hired, Help for Heroes will receive a donation of £4, with the participating shop providing half that sum and ACS Clothing matching their contribution.

Designed by the renowned Edinburgh firm of military tailors GB Tailoring, whose founders are both ex servicemen with sons in the armed services, the official Help for Heroes tartan uses the colours from the charity’s famous logo as its inspiration. The tartan is being manufactured to the highest standards by famous weavers Lochcarron and will be available to hire for functions from July 2012.

Freedman added: “We think this is a very exciting way of supporting a great cause while also offering our wearers a new and exciting design. The tartan is stunning, combining black, red, duck-egg blue and navy and looks great with a black sporran and black Argyll jacket. We are really excited about this and think that it should prove a great choice for weddings, dinners and other formal events.”

ACS is the industry leader in the formal dress hire market. Underpinning the hire activities of nearly every major brand in the UK, it provides highland wear and formalwear for hire to its network of over 1000 retail outlets
