The Silver Plume Gallery Presents the Linda Syddick Napaltjarri Art Exhibition Sydney

The Silver Plume art gallery in the prestigious Double Bay area of Sydney, Australia, invites you to their ‘Linda Syddick Napaltjarri Art Exhibition’, a celebration of the life and paintings of this true Western Desert Aboriginal artist.

‘Linda Syddick Napaltjarri was born at Lake Mackay in the Western Australian Gibson Desert around 1937, where she was brought up by her mother in the traditional nomadic fashion until she was about 8 or 9, when her family left the desert and settled at Haasts Bluff, Central Australia.’ Says Silver Plume partner Tad Anderman. ‘Taught to paint by her uncles but inspired by her father and her stepfather who asked her to continue his work and paint his dreaming after his death.

‘Linda’s paintings often depict the Dreaming story of the Tingari and the Emu Men. The Emu Men were ancestral beings that roamed the desert landscape in the Dreamtime of the creation period, and the Emu was also the totem of both her father and her stepfather.

‘Linda paints mostly around the land where she was born and raised, Lake Mackay, a place which has been visited by the Pintupi, during their seasonal journeys for thousands of years. Her art incorporates many perspectives of a story into one single painting, painting the land and country in an aerial perspective, like traditional Pintupi sand paintings but painting figures straight on as if on a cave wall.’
