i1connect News: The Imperato Bloomberg Effect on an Independent America

New York, NY 6/21/07– Earlier this week, New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, announced that he was severing his ties with the Republican Party and declaring himself as an independent.

Although widely speculated, Bloomberg's announcement was unexpected at this point and has been viewed as the first step towards an independent presidential run.

Now as political pundits and news media anchors debate about whether Michael Bloomberg can win, the more relevant question is whether any independent can win.
The strongest independent showing to date, outside of George Washington, was from H. Ross Perot Sr., who garnered 19% of the popular vote in 1992.

At the time, America took kindly to Perot's "straight-talk" and no-nonsense business mentality.

Fitting the mold of the no-nonsense businessman, two independents come to mind, Michael Bloomberg and Daniel Imperato.

Both have extensive business backgrounds, and both are seen as being Washington outsiders.
Recently, the two were linked through the Latin/African American Chaplains Association. Bloomberg is a major supporter of the organization; Imperato was recently ordained as a Chaplain.

Both have been organizing their campaigns since 2005, although, Imperato has been more formal with his preparations for a Presidential bid.
Yet, with their similarities, what does either Bloomberg or Imperato do for the independent cause?

Bloomberg brings tremendous personal wealth and national recognition. He has recently made campaign stops with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and has been speaking openly about national leadership.

Imperato brings international recognition, having dealt with many world leaders and high ranking officials in over 70 countries around the world.

Since the announcement of Bloomberg's independent status, a Draft Imperato Bloomberg effort has been started out of Virginia. It seems that America is now becoming comfortable with placing an independent in the White House.
Mayor Bloomberg was unavailable for comment when his office was contacted regarding this story. However, i1connect was able to speak briefly with Daniel Imperato.

"Michael Bloomberg is a man that I have a great deal of respect for," stated Imperato. "I wish him all of the best in whatever endeavors that he pursues."

Imperato revealed that his office has been in contact with Bloomberg's office and that a meeting was in the process of being organized.

Imperato did disclose that he would discuss political matters in the meeting with Bloomberg, but would not disclose whether there will be any talk of a possible Imperato Bloomberg, President and Vice President, ticket for 2008.

"America will have a fine independent presidential ticket for 2008," stated Imperato. "As The People's President, I will make sure that the people have a President and Vice President that will be of the people, for the people, all the time, every time."
