ESDS bags the Prestigious eWorld Forum 2012 Award

ESDS Software Solution Pvt. Ltd. led by entrepreneur Piyush Somani, has been conferred upon the eWorld Jury Choice Award 2012 for its unique initiative 'ePDS (Public Distribution System)' under the 'Best Government to Citizen Initiative of the Year' category at an award ceremony held in New Delhi. ESDS beat several national & international projects that were nominated, to bag this prestigious award.

eWorld Forum is a premier global conference organised annually and these awards have been instituted with the primary aim of felicitating and acknowledging unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development and to spread awareness about their role in addressing social concerns in the domain of governance and health.

The objective of this ePDS system by ESDS is to provide improved transparent services to the poor while maintaining seamless processes for the Government. According to the company, ePDS is a way-forward solution aimed at improving Distribution system in the state, and make the PDS paperless thus truly achieving their vision of bringing in Quality and Transparent Revolution in the Public Distribution System in India.

ESDS's initiative to take up ePDS was inspired by a certain coincidence when ESDS CEO, Mr. Piyush Somani, was visiting the Ministry once. He was inquired by a Government Official there about the services ESDS provides to the Government, and specifically for the Public Distribution System. This prompted ESDS to take this up as an opportunity and prepare a proposal explaining the company's understanding of the PDS system and the possible solutions they could offer. This proposal was prepared by Team ESDS after a thorough study of the existing systems.

The Team at ESDS prepared detailed reports, evaluated existing software that was being used by the District Supply Office, and even visited Godowns where the food grains are stored in order to have a complete understanding of the existing system. Originally conceived as a modification to the existing, basic level software that has been deployed and used at the District Level, the team at ESDS completely revolutionized this concept and developed its own system which not only covers the basic requirements like Data entry for new Ration cards, Allocation of food grains and other commodities, Eradication of Duplicate records, but also performs certain other critical functions thus making ePDS truly unique. The implementation of ePDS will also help eliminate a major loophole of bogus ration cards in future, as 35000 of them were detected soon after implementation.
