Colorado Pet Pantry Expands its Pet Food Bank to Grand Junction

When not performing their extreme dog sport shows, The Canine Stars help distribute pet food donations to shelters in CO and TX.
GRAND JUNCTION, CO— When the Colorado Pet Pantry announced plans for a new monthly pet food bank to serve the Grand Junction area, the Canine Stars knew they had to help. Best known for their extreme dog sports productions, the Canine Stars also spend much of their off time transporting pet food donations to shelters across the country, and rescue dogs to their new homes, so this was a natural fit.
They quickly agreed to use both sets of skills to help distribute food to those in need while also entertaining visitors with their four-legged stars at the first food distribution event, to be held February 27, 2021 from 9 – 11 am at Clifton Christian Church in partnership with Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies.
Canine Stars president and co-founder Keri Caraher was excited by the opportunity to help, explaining, “Food insecurity is always scary, and we’re glad that there are food pantries to help people in need. When people suffer financial losses and struggle to put food on the table, pets suffer too. This new monthly pet food bank will take some pressure off those in the Grand Junction area and help people who are struggling to still care for their beloved pets.”
When Caraher learned that there was actually a surplus of pet food, she quickly came up with a plan for how to help even more dogs, calling on LeRoy Golden, one of the Canine Stars’ Texas-based trainers. Golden confirmed that some of the local shelters were struggling due to the unprecedented Texas weather that had left many in crisis, and agreed to drive up to Colorado and bring food back to four of those shelters: Coalition for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty in Crockett, TX, Salvation Animal Rescue in Lufkin, TX, Pets for People in Tyler, TX and Rufus Refuge in Madisonville, TX.
Golden says, “It’s been cold down here in Texas; we are a tough bunch, but this crazy weather has done a lot of damage, and it’s put some of our rescues in need of food for the pups. This generous donation is going to make a Texas-sized difference and I want to say a big thank y’all to the Colorado Pet Pantry for helping us out!”
The Colorado Pet Pantry will continue to distribute food on the fourth Saturday of every month at the new Clinton location, in addition to other cities throughout the state. They welcome volunteers and donations, and interested persons can visit coloradopetpantry.org to learn more about how to support the mission, or contact Eileen Lambert, 720-441-3111, eileen@coloradopetpantry.org.
