Career & Gender: why women ask for less and how to deal with it?
Today it is universally agreed that women and men should be equal in the workplace. They deserve equal levels of conditions, salary, treatment and promotion. But why now, in the 21st century, women earn and promote less than their male colleagues? Many researchers estimate that men are four times more likely than their female counterparts to ask for a career or salary raise. And when women do ask, as a rule, they request 30% less than men do. An Australian research of 4,600 employees shows that while women are as likely as men to ask for raises, they are 25% less likely to get them. These are very disappointing numbers that explain why a wide gender pay gap exists in the 21th century.
How to deal with it and get what you deserve?
1 - Be ready for negotiation
If you don’t ask, you won’t get. If you want to get more, you should negotiate and be ready for confident argumentation why you deserve it.
As a rule, negotiation for women about promotion at the workplace or better salary is more difficult than for men. Nature creates us as perfect negotiators: we are ready to protect others and we are good team players. But social and gender stereotypes make us unconfident.
There are many interesting courses and workshops about negotiations for women, where you can learn about what prevents you from getting more and how to deal with it. Preparing for negotiation, write for yourself a list of constructive arguments about why you deserve the promotion. Negotiate in a good mood, be positive and speak confidently.
2 - Aim as high as possible
As a rule, men set higher goals than women, that's why so much women earn less. If you ask for less, no one will pay you more. Eventually, you will negotiate and seek a compromise. Or your counterpart will agree
3 - Don’t be afraid of hearing “no”
Nobody will dismiss you for asking more. If your request is rejected, you won’t lose anything. But if you aren’t afraid of “no”, you will be more confident. If you hear “no”, don’t settle for an unhappy situation and think about a plan that benefits you. For instance, consider a further negotiation, a job change or seeking another manager or colleague to collaborate with.

What is B2B sales and how it has changed: what does nowadays buyer need?
B2B sales - are the business to business sales. We have a situation, when one company sales products or services to another company (not to consumer).
