The 12th World XTL Summit Brought Together Key Industry Leaders

The 12th World XTL Summit took place on 21-23 May 2012 at the Waldorf Hilton, London, UK and is recognised by the industry as the premier gas, coal & biomass to liquids (XTL) Summit. The Executive Briefing and Summit brought together industry leaders and key decision makers from over 25 countries around the globe, to discuss challenges, solutions and opportunities in the XTL sector.

The Summit commenced with opening remarks from Malcolm Wells, Director, Malwell Corporate Projects, on the current developments in the XTL market. Presentations from key speakers included: Paul van Rijssen, Senior Business Development Manager XTL, Shell Exploration & Production B.V; Dr James Vaughan, Project Director, Uzbekistan GTL; Martin Considine, Vice President Btu Conversion, Peabody Energy; Nirvasen Moonsamy, Business Development Manager, Sasol Synfuels International (Pty) Limited; Guy de Kort, VP XTL, Shell Projects & Technology; Don Pierson, Senior Director of Business Development, Louisiana Economic Development; Iain Baxter, Director of Business Development, Compact GTL; and Anton Punt, Lead Business Analyst, ORYX GTL.

The Summit focused on the current favourable market conditions for the XTL industry, with the price of natural gas being low and the commercial price of liquid hydrocarbons being high, this has created a number of opportunities. This key theme was addressed in a panel discussion on the realisation of XTL potential, chaired by Malcolm Wells, Director, Malwell Corporate Projects. The discussion furthermore highlighted how XTL economics are improving and the importance of XTL in economic growth.

The Summit is recognised for its unique networking functions and this year provided delegates with a number of opportunities to maximise networking experiences, including: welcome drinks; extended coffee breaks; corporate lunches; and a Gala Dinner. The cocktail networking round tables were once again successful, and presented delegates with the opportunity to debate key issues in an informal environment outside of the conference room.

World XTL has been championing the industry for over a decade and is the Summit that provides updates on the progress and opportunities in gas, coal and biomass to liquids. The Summit offers the opportunity for industry leaders and experts to network and discuss the current challenges and possibilities of XTL. The 13th World XTL Summit, will take place in May 2013 in London, and will discuss developments in the industry in the last 12 months.
