Berlin. Growing costs for waste disposal are only a fraction of the expenditure by which hospitals are faced. It is necessary to make savings in many areas. That it is possible to make savings without intervention in an existing system has been demonstrated by the example of the Berlin-based firm ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH.

In 2002, AK Umweltschutz carried out a practice workshop in the hospital Nordrhein-Westfalen with experts, production manufacturers and hospital staff regarding the subject “Waste or effluent? Disposing fluid medical waste safely, cheaply and in an environmentally friendly manner.“
The conclusion: "Our future task is to develop in association with handlers, manufacturers and research institutes, a safe, cost-saving and environmentally friendly solution for this problem [the disposal of fluid waste].”
Growing costs of disposal, the need for safe alternatives to the bedpan and const-intensive disposable containers necessitate a rethink of the methods for the disposal of waste with a high fluid content. The Berlin based ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH has faced this task with great success: the outcome is the waste compressor GreenPak for waste of the disposal code 180104. The waste compressor has been employed successfully in the Accident and Emergency Hospital Berlin (ukb) since the middle of last year. It was possible to reach a cost reduction of almost 50 % for the disposal of waste with a high proportion of fluid in only the first year of operation. The waste compressor was integrated in existing logistical practice without difficulty.
According to their own information, there are still several open viewing appointments in June and July 2007. Interested hospitals are requested to contact ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH directly.

ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH is specialized in the health-care system. The Berlin based firm advises clinics, institutions and ministries in both Germany and abroad regarding the topic of waste management. Their waste press GreenPak for waste with the disposal code 180104 is operated in the ukb with great success.
