Metaswitch Project Details
Product Brief
The product is Virtualized Network Appliance that supports multiple service functions like IP Routing, IPSEC VPN, Deep Packet Inspection, VoIP Gateway across multiple nodes in a cluster. It used a customized forwarding-plane over Intel-DPDK and Metaswitch Routing Stack. Each node could have both Data-plane and Control-plane functionality.
• DC-OSPF, DC-BGP, DC-RTM Integration with Distributed Interface Manager
Interfaces were owned by Intel-DPDK and a proprietary Distributed Interface Manager managed them. I3 stub was written to pass Interface Information between DC-OSPF, DC-BGP, DC-RTM, and the Distributed Interface Manager. It supported IPSs for getting Interface Status (UP, DOWN), Interface IP Addresses, local routes learning, etc.
• DC-OSPF, DC-BGP Integration with Customized IP-Stack
The IP Stack with socket interface was built in-house for optimized performance in a virtual appliance. SCK stub was written for communication between DC-OSPF, DC-BGP, and the Customized IP-Stack. It supported IPSs for creating RAW, UDP, TCP sockets; join the multicast group; connecting and accept connections, receive and send packets, etc.
• N-Base integration with Tail-f Management Plane
The client used Tail-f for Management Plane (CLI, SNMP, NetConf, WebUI, etc.). Integrated the metaCLI Tail-Pack for the routing configuration and statistics for DC-OSPF, DC-BGP, DC-RTM.
• N-Base integration with Distributed FIB
FIB table existed in each cluster node. FIB Manager distributed the FIB table to each node. A QCFT stub was written for communication between DC-RTM to the FIB Manager.
• Multi-location support for N-Base protocol and Performance optimization
The product had the requirement to support distributed control plane and was running control protocols in multiple node instances. IPS was integrated with the proprietary inter-node communication protocol to support multi-location communication.
OS calls like malloc, free, select were integrated into the customized platform APIs for optimized performance.
