IBN-Lokmat presents Great Bhet with veteran director duo Sumitra Bhave - Sunil Sukhtankar

Bringing socially relevant, heartwarming films to Marathi cinema is not a tried and tested formula. Breaking free from the clutter were two individuals in the form of Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar. IBN-Lokmat extensively covers a soulful tete-a-tete with the creative genius’s only on Great Bhet on Saturday, 12th May 2012 at 9:30 pm.

For social worker Sumitra Bhave, it was her profession that drew her towards the artistic world of cinema. On the other hand, Sunil Sukhtankar, an alumnus of Pune’s Film and Television of India, embarked on his journey as a youth theatre activist. It was during this period that he began assisting Sumitra with her films. Their determination to potray the passion of the common man bought them together. They went on to make masterpieces in the form of Devrai, Vaastupurush, Doghi, Bai, Neetal, etc.

During the past three decades, they have taken Marathi cinema to new high – winning accolades at the International level. They have taken sensitive issues relevant to the masses and created wonders behind the camera. With their perfect casting, intelligent dialogues with extraordinary shots they have created a mark for themselves in the filmmaking industry. A recent social issue which has gripped the nation has been the Anna Hazare campaign against corruption which was masterfully captured by this director duo.
