The South Breeze Day Camp Welcomes Summer Campers June 11

The South Breeze Day Camp, a Naples-area children’s day camp where a unique blend of athletic and creative activities help campers learn new skills, make new friends, develop self-esteem and, above all, have fun, is welcoming kids ranging in age from 3 to 14 to participate in their 2012 Summer Day Camp program, which will start on June 11.

There’s an old camp expression, “Living 10 for 2,” getting through ten months of school for two months of summer camp. PJ and Eric Meyer, the husband and wife powerhouse behind South Breeze Day Camp in Naples, embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly. As the first day of Summer Day Camp this year approaches, PJ and Eric are excited to reunite with returning campers and welcome new campers.

With dozens of activities on the weekly schedule and a host of truly unique electives, it’s safe to say this is not your average day camp. As Eric explains, this variety is part of what makes South Breeze stand out: “From sports to performing arts, to science and nature and swimming, there is something to suit every camper’s interest. And it’s easy for the parents, because they can find all this at one great camp, where the directors really get to know their kids.”

The staff is made up of dedicated role models, bonding with their kids and offering support and encouragement. Counselors are mostly college students, who are great role models and are passionate about working with children. Activities are led by trained specialists: these teachers and coaches are committed to helping campers learn and grow. “Our philosophy is unique among camps,” PJ shares. “Our overriding mission is to help kids learn how to be good friends, respect each other, and enjoy each game and activity for its own sake. There are very few places where you’ll find as great a sense of pride about being in a community as we have here.”

South Breeze Day Camp runs for eight weeks of the summer, and PJ and Eric encourage kids to attend as many of the weeks as possible. “Campers really become part of a special community,” says Eric. “When these kids leave us on the last day of camp, it’s wonderful to see how much they’ve grown during their time with us.”
