Monia Tartarini: Visions of Place at Agora Gallery

04-23-2012 10:03 PM CET | Arts & Culture

Press release from: Agora Gallery

As one looks upon the works of Italian photographer Monia Tartarini one senses an understated elegance within the perfection of her carefully poised imagery. A delicate intuition for color and light is revealed through these compositions as the artist captures her large scale digital photographs. Specializing in environmental and studio portraiture, Tartarini chooses subjects which range from classically inspired imagery to visions with a broad worldview drawn from such disparate locations as the icy Antarctic waters and the tropical South Pacific, both of which she visited during travels around the globe. In her sweeping landscapes Tartarini discovers the essence of place, finding the heart of her scenes within a panoramic expanse of space. Her portraits are poignantly luminous, posing figures within a subtle sensitivity of shadow and light that recalls the works of the great Renaissance masters.

A graduate of the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney, Monia Tartarini considered herself a self-taught photographer from an early age. She now lives in her birthplace of Milan, Italy and her art has found widespread acclaim in exhibits and collections worldwide.
