New International Preschool, Kindergarten Location Opens in Zurich
Zurich parents can now enjoy services at Freiestrasse 175, formerly the site of Tandem IMS, in addition to Children First Association’s original facility at Englischviertelstrasse 42.
The new location opened on Monday April 2 2012. As a result of the expansion, Children First Association is currently enrolling new students. 21 new places will be available and, over the first two years, 67 places in total will be free at both sites. The school will provide Zurich city preschool care for children between the ages of 2 and 4.5, along with kindergarten care for children between the ages of 3 and 6.
“Our aim is to promote healthy development for children between the ages of one and six, especially amongst international families with young children in and around the Zurich area,” said a Children First Association representative. “We believe we can help young children learn by providing secure attachments with loving adult figures, encouraging the development of a broad range of skills through our Early Years curriculum, and working in partnership with parents.”
Both facilities will offer educational services in tune with the teaching philosophy of child development pioneer Maria Montessori.
Zurich based Montessori specialists emphasize children’s independence, psychological development, and freedom in an environment that includes blocks of structured activity time, hands-on learning, and an emphasis on positive social interaction.
Additionally, at this English kindergarten and English preschool, Zurich children will be immersed in an environment that develops their English-language skills naturally, while still being exposed to German, Swiss German, or French as part of the standard curriculum, with learning German required for kindergarteners. Thus, in harmony with the multi-cultural environment of Zurich, English kindergarten and preschool students will share in the joy of learning multiple languages.
As part of the emphasis on healthy child development, Zurich parents enrolling their children with Children First Association will receive regular feedback in individual meetings, written reports, and if needed, specialized help in private sessions.
Interested parents can find more information online at www.ChildrenFirst.ch, including a printable application form. Information specific to the new school at Freiestrasse 175, including Open House visit times and photos, can be found at childrenfirstassociation.info.
Parents should keep in mind that, since English is the medium of instruction, children will be happier if they already understand English at home. Therefore, admission may be denied to children from non-English speaking homes. Parents need to commit to a minimum of four half days or three full days, depending on the age of their child. A minimum of twelve month places is considered bookable up to six months in advance, depending on availability.
Children First Association is a non-profit Montessori preschool and kindergarten in Zurich.
