The World's 101 Best Canned Products from the Sea
The creators and publishers of World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants have decided to create another ranking under the name World's 101 Best Canned Fish.The official launch of the ranking will take place on Thursday, 29 October 2020 at 12.00 CET. The ranking can be viewed at www.worldbestfish.com
The ranking was modelled on the already highly successful and internationally active list of the 101 best steak restaurants in the world.
The ranking focuses on the best canned fish and seafood products from the leading producers in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Denmark. The products consist of the following categories: Sardines, tuna, mackerel, anchovies and seafood which includes the best mussels from the Cantabrian coast.
The tastings and evaluations were carried out by a top-class jury consisting of food hunters, restaurateurs, restaurant critics and chefs decorated with Guide Michelin. Ekkehard Knobelspies, part of the jury, says "it was very exciting and insightful to be part of this tasting. Tinned fish products can be real culinary treasures and taste bombs. Especially when they are carefully selected and processed by hand by the best producers such as El Capricho or Real Conservera España".
Fortunately, canned products have been on the rise again for some years now and are very popular with chefs, restaurateurs and private lovers of good and healthy food. "The quality, which we were able to taste in some cases, also deserves it - because these are absolute gourmet products with the predicate of top class", Knobelspies continues.
In recent years, Spanish producers have earned themselves a top position in terms of taste, quality and design and it is not for nothing that they occupy the top positions in the ranking. With the French producers, who for a long time were considered the non plus ultra, especially in the vintage sardine segment, one sometimes has the feeling that one is resting a little on the laurels of the past decades.
A lot of light and shadow can be seen in the suppliers from Portugal, whose canned fish is almost a national sanctuary. Often quantity comes before class here. However, the traditional company Conservas Pinhais, based in Matosinhos on the Portuguese Atlantic coast and their Nuri brand produced on-site, which is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, is a wonderful exception.
