New Hampshire Medical Society Names Cynthia S. Cooper, MD New President
Cynthia S. Cooper, MD, of Durham, New Hampshire, was inaugurated as the 180th President of the New Hampshire Medical Society.* She is the third female physician to lead the Society. Dr. Cooper is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and she practices at Gynecology and Infertility Associates, PA, in Dover, New Hampshire. Prior to becoming a member of the Medical Society’s governing body, Dr. Cooper served 12 years on the New Hampshire Board of Medicine and was President of the Board from 2001-2004.In the coming year, Dr. Cooper plans to focus on the obesity epidemic and how physicians can help patients manage their weight more effectively. She says, “Long term weight loss is not easy – more than 95% of patients are known to gain their weight back within 5 years. It is essential that physicians educate patients regarding the latest evidence of what works and what does not, so that their patients are able to keep the weight off permanently.”
Along with her state activities in organized medicine and physician regulation, Dr. Cooper served as a delegate to the Federation of State Medical Boards and continues to be active with the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Cooper helps to design the US Medical License Exam (USMLE) tests, which are the licensing examinations that medical students and physicians take for licensure in the United States. She is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
