WASHINGTON, March 22, 2012 — The DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) today announced that the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel and Amtrak are extending special discounted travel packages to out-of-town jazz enthusiasts planning to attend the 2012 Festival, which will take place June 1-10 in venues throughout the nation’s capital city.

“We have been enthused about the considerable number of out-of-town fans who have attended the Festival in prior years,” said DCJF Executive Producer Charles Fishman. “This year, thanks to the generous support of the Washington Marriott Wardman Park and Amtrak, we anticipate an even larger number of tourists who will be treated to dazzling performances by such renowned artists as Dianne Reeves, Jimmy Heath, Roy Hargrove, David Sanchez, Les Nubians, and John Scofield, among many others.”

This year’s signature concert, Jazz Meets the Classics at the Kennedy Center, will feature National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Masters Paquito D’Rivera, Kenny Barron and Ron Carter, along with the Classical Jazz Quartet presenting jazz interpretations of Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.

The Washington Marriott Wardman Park is offering an exclusive discount rate of $159 per night, which includes free self-parking from June 1-10. The hotel is situated on 16 garden acres and has hosted a long list of U.S. presidents, dignitaries and VIPs. Guests can enjoy convenient on-site Metro accessibility, which provides access to major Festival performances. Travelers can call (800) 228-9290 or (202) 328-2000 or visit www.wardmanparkmarriott.com to book reservations using the promotional code M16.

Take Amtrak to the DC Jazz Festival and save 30 percent on a companion fare when you book now through December 16, 2012. Festival guests can visit www.amtrak.com/visitdc and use the “Book It Now” feature to receive the companion fare discount.

“We encourage tourism during the DC Jazz Festival because it enhances the local economy and opens the door for young people traveling from all over the country to hear jazz in our nation’s capital,” said Sunny Sumter, Executive Director of the DC Jazz Festival and Director of the Roberta Flack Music Excellence Program, which offers free concerts, workshops, and master classes throughout the Festival. “Our aim is to build tomorrow’s jazz fans and to encourage youth to get excited about this music.”
