Press release from: Nadrich & Cohen LLP

Nadrich & Cohen, LLP is now investigating cases of Stevens Johnson Syndrome caused by the prescription drug Lamictal.

Los Angeles, CA, March 1, 2012 – National law firm Nadrich & Cohen, LLP is pleased to announce that it is now investigating cases of Stevens Johnson Syndrome involving the prescription drug Lamictal.

Lamictal (lamotrigine) is commonly used to treat patients suffering from epileptic conditions and in some cases, it may also be prescribed to treat patients who are diagnosed with bipolar I depression. Common side effects of Lamictal include headaches, blurred vision and coordination problems. A less common side effect involves an allergic reaction that results in the development of a condition known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is characterized by a reddish or purplish rash that can eventually develop into blisters or lesions. Typically, patients who are diagnosed with SJS may exhibit flu-like symptoms for several days prior to the appearance of the rash. Stevens Johnson Syndrome may cause inflammation of the mucous membranes surrounding the eyes, mouth, nose and genital area. At some point, the upper layers of skin may begin to shed, leaving the patient with a burned appearance.

Lamictal users who develop Stevens Johnson Syndrome may be at risk for serious infection, shock, organ damage, vision impairment or permanent scarring. In some cases, symptoms can worsen and develop into another condition known as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), which is fatal in approximately 30% of all cases.

Patients who believe they developed Stevens Johnson Syndrome after using Lamictal are urged to seek the advice of an experienced personal injury lawyer to protect their rights. The Stevens Johnson Syndrome attorneys at Nadrich & Cohen, LLP are now offering confidential, no-cost consultations to Lamictal users who believe they were harmed by the drug. Help is available by calling the firm’s injury hotline at 1-800-722-0765 or by completing an online case evaluation form at www.sjs-lawyers.com.
