Bradford Health Services is proud to announce its sponsorship of The Journey Series, a free, six-week webinar series on addiction and recovery. The series kicks off on Sept. 3 with a live keynote address from Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and continues each Thursday through Oct. 8.The series will cover several topics, including the science of addiction, how to ask for help, the impact of the opioid epidemic, and resources for families of those struggling with addiction. "We want these sessions to not only drive awareness to this crisis but also show that there are many paths to recovery. Session speakers include Bradford's Schaffer and Corporate Medical Director, Dr. Mike Wilkerson, and Madison Medical Director, Dr. Brent Boyett. The lineup also features other area professionals and peer support specialists from state-certified facilities and faith-based programs.
The Journey Series is an extension of The Journey Day, an annual event held in Jefferson County by the Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. The Recovery Ministries partnered with Walker County Health Action Partnership (HAP) to offer the event in Walker County. The series was made virtual to comply with the COVID-19 pandemic “Safer at Home” ordinances.
"It is a blessing in disguise because we now can safely reach people across the state and beyond," said. Rachel Puckett, MS, a series organizer and Behavioral Health Development Manager for Capstone Rural Health Center and HAP. "By going virtual, we are able to bring together experts from a wide variety of recovery organizations, presenting a united front of care for those living with addiction."
