New Sunni Colonel in Iraqi Military with still unknown functions.

02-27-2012 04:25 AM CET | Politics, Law & Society

Press release from: DARCI Documentation and Research Center Iraq)

According to military sources, there is a new Sunni colonel named Kais Kais Awni., what the time is very unusual in Iraq, although there is still no official confirmation.

Colonel Awni never belonged to the Baath Government. He lived and studied economics in Germany. He was grown up and lived in Bagdad for many years. His responsibilities are as yet completely unknown.

The source is an article published at Al-Thawra. The original Text can't be placed here, because the system does not support the arabic language.

This is the third source releasing this information in 3 weeks. All of them independetly from each other. The other articles were from Al-Sabah and Al-Fourat

Al-Fourat was the first to pick up the topic. According to Al-Fourat the majority Shia government either wants to put a sign outside of reconciliation, in which they also set Sunnis in key posts, or is it just political calculation?

The only certainty is that with Colonel Kais Awni an "unloaded" candidate was found, who had never belonged to the former Baath Party, but still brings considerable military experience from the war against Iran (1980-1988).

Awni, little is known about wharves. He is regarded as a liberal, pro-Western, and as a brilliant strategic mind. He is said to be a kind of "genius" in marketing and distribution areas, what he obviously proved in the late 90s, when he were assumed by very prestigious European companies such as British Airways, Avis, Europcar, Steigenberger Hotels and Intercontinental Hotels.

Every news paper added a little information so that it becomes, at least one image now and can be regarded as a confirmed rumor.
