There are many ways how to discover Lisbon. People can buy a tourist guide and travel alone around the city. Another option is to pay for a tourist bus or buy some excursion package. But there is also another way. It is free and it will lead them to the places which are not listed in any travel guide -- GeoCheckpointing.

Many new GeoCheckpoints have been placed in Lisbon, Portugal, in the last days. These GeoCheckpoints offer a new way how to discover the Portugal capital.

If the tourist decides to discover Lisbon with GeoCheckpointing, the best place to start is the city center. From this place they can walk to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara near Rossio metro station or Parque Eduardo VII. There are multiple GeoCheckpoints placed in nice nature of Marquês de Pombal. Another possible ways may lead to the park between Centro De Arte Moderna and Museu Calouste Gulbenkian. This park is a home of many water birds.

Another nice part of Lisbon is Bela Vista Park. With multiple GeoCheckpoints placed in this location tourists will discover every corner of this quiet area. Nearby GeoCheckpoints at Parque Vale do Silêncio and Ponte Vasco de Gama are also recommended. Especially the Ponte Vasco de Gama GeoCheckpoint is worth to visit, since Ponte Vasco de Gama is the longest bridge in Europe (including viaducts), with a total length of 17.2 km.

What is GeoCheckpointing?

GeoCheckpointing is an outdoor activity where participants use a map, a GPS device or GPS enabled smart phone to find control points called GeoCheckpoints. These control points are always placed near some interesting places. They will lead them not only to the most famous places in the city, but also to the hidden places which would they never discover otherwise.
