CYSPEX

Date: Thursday, 1st March 2012
Venue: Jubilee room, Westminster Hall, House of Commons

On the 1st March 2012, Templar Executives and StratexSystems will host a cyber security breakfast briefing to address how public and private organisation can work together and engage in practical steps to improve the UK’s Cyber Maturity level.

The event comes at a poignant moment; in the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks report, published this month, it was noted that:

“Initial insights highlighted that cyber security solutions exist, but human behaviour is frequently a key weakness: while best practices are led at the executive level, an understanding of the risk lies at the board level. Providing executives with information and tools to understand and mitigate the vulnerabilities within their organizations presented itself as one way to create immediate impact”.

The event, hosted by Andrew Miller MP, Chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee, will focus on the ways in which organisations can mitigate both the internal and the external threats. With the World Economic Forum recognising Cyber Security as number 4 of the top 5 global risks, it is time that we stop talking about it and start taking action.

Andrew Miller MP will be joined by guest speakers including Rena Lalgie, Director of Cyber Security, Department for Business Innovation and Skills, Simon Parker, Chief Information Officer at Babcock International Group PLC and John Cook, Head of Defence, Security and Accreditation Services at the MoD.

No one organisation can affect the Cyber Maturity of UK PLC alone. All suppliers and commercial partners of that organisation also need to implement necessary measures, processes and procedures. The critical nature of cyber security across the entire supply chain has been recognised by Government and prompted a CESG announcement on the 4th October 2010 that all Government suppliers be at maturity level 3 of the Information Assurance Maturity Model, or equivalent, by 2015. By necessity, this means that all organisations in the government supplier chain (either a supplier, or a supplier’s supplier) need to assess their current level of maturity and, most likely, take steps to improve their cyber security measures.

This briefing session has been designed to address what practical actions both the public and private sectors can take, individually and collectively, to raise the Cyber Maturity level of UK PLC.

Confirmed Speakers:
- Andrew Miller, MP
- John Cook, Head of Defence, Secutity and Accreditation Services, Ministry of Defence
- Simon Parker, Chief Information Officer, Babcock International Group PLC
- Rena Lalgie, Director of Cyber Security, Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
