CARY, North Carolina – July 13, 2020 - Reminiscing childhood memories of pastrami sandwiches and knishes with brown mustard, career restauranteur Ron Didner has launched Mookie’s New York Deli in Cary, N.C. The casual-dining restaurant will open on Monday, July 13 at 5 pm and offer authentic deli dishes with catering capabilities for special events and corporate meetings. Mookie’s is located at 1010 Tryon Village Drive in Cary and will offer curbside pickup and indoor/outdoor seating.

Mookie’s New York Deli is named after Ron’s dog Mookie and her namesake, baseball player Mookie Wilson. The deli will feature small plates, specialty sandwiches, cocktails, monthly specials, desserts, and more. Additionally, partnerships with local N.C. food providers such as Fox Farms, Blue Sky Farms, and Joe Van Gogh Coffee have been established to provide high-quality and farm fresh ingredients to guests.

The current trend of casual dining helped Didner decide to apply his fine-dining experiences from Café des Artistes, the Four Seasons, the Inn at Perry Cabin, and locally at Vidrio, Taverna Agora, and the City Club Raleigh, to create a special, casual dining experience for guests that would exceed customer expectations.

Childhood dining at the neighborhood deli in Rockland County, New York inspired the creation of Mookie’s. “I grew up on beef barley soup and hot turkey sandwiches with Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda,” Didner said. “For many people, no matter where they live, a true deli experience just feels like home. I’m looking forward to bringing a sense of nostalgia to the Triangle community and introducing new food experiences to families and businesses across the region,” continued Didner.

Classic New York Menu with Southern Inspiration

The best of New York deli fare will be showcased including knishes, salads, and sandwiches with brisket, corned beef, pastrami, chopped liver, and country ham as well as Reubens and salmon and lox platters. Monthly specials will include ode-to-New York options such as Lower East Side Egg Roll, Relocated Met Fan, and The Bowery Boys, to name a few. The Didner family recipe for Chicken Matzo Ball soup, grill items including The Pride of Manhattan, and a kid’s menu round out the offerings. Dessert options will feature Black and White cookies, New York cheesecake, and much more.

Mookie’s will feature 14 drafts, of which eight are local N.C. beers and ciders. The drink menu will provide guests with wines by the glass as well as a curated bottle list. Specialty cocktails will feature southern favorite mixer Cheerwine and New York-inspired mixed drinks which include Boylan and Dr. Brown sodas with named cocktails: Grand Concourse, Wallstreet, 5 Boroughs, The Theatre District, and more.
