Press release from: Fashion Mingle

July 7, 2020 (NEW YORK, NY) -- Join Fashion Mingle on July 10, 2020 at 1pm EST for an honest discussion of what it is like to be a person of color in the fashion and beauty industry. The Diversity in the Fashion Industry panel will include 11 respected fashion and beauty industry veterans who will share their stories of racism, stereotypes, and discrimination as they built their careers in the fashion industry. The public is invited to join the panel discussion through Zoom and submit questions via chat.

The panelists include Hamdia Ahmed, fashion model and a former Somali refugee; Elliot Carlyle, Speaker, Business Coach, and Director of Cultural Diversity and Inclusion for NYC Jewelry Week; Nicole Doswell, Executive Director of The Riviere Agency and Founder of Models of Color Matter; Etu Evans, celebrity shoe designer and Creative Director of Harlem World Magazine; Marc Harvey, Founder of MHB Cosmetics, celebrity makeup artist & hairstylist; Wendy Hu, Creative Director at Visual Conductor; Eldonie Mason, fashion and entertainment lawyer; Adrina Nelson, designer of Adrina Fanore, assistant buyer and technical apparel designer, Eddie Rhodman Jr, founder of Rhodman Enterprises and Board Member at Black Public Relations Society Los Angeles; and Jonathan Valdez, pop culture and fashion journalist and Us Weekly Fashion Police Top Cop.

The Diversity in the Fashion Industry panel discussion will be hosted by Melissa Shea, CEO and cofounder of Fashion Mingle, a global platform for fashion industry professionals. Fashion Mingle produces a weekly Mingle Mastermind Session that features fashion and beauty veterans who share their expertise and advice on how to grow your business.

The panel will be moderated by Adrina Nelson, a fashion designer with over a decade of experience working for major retailers like Calvin Klein Jeans, Ann Taylor, Ross, and Tracy Reese. Her observations of operations and toxic culture in the corporate environment led her to create her own sustainable brand, Adrina Fanore.

The panel will openly discuss the problems and share solutions on how corporate brands, white-owned businesses, and consumers can be better allies and push the fashion and beauty industry to be a leader for diversity around the world. Topics will include discussions about microaggressions among the predominantly white corporate leadership in the fashion and beauty industry, the systemic racism at New York Fashion Week, and how diversity in marketing teams can help brands avoid embarrassing mistakes.
