FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Midwest Introduces New IMAPS™ Body Armor Technology
The Impact Mitigating Armor Panel System from Midwest Armor

Hazelton, ND – Midwest today announced the official unveiling of their new Impact Mitigating Armor Panel System or IMAPS™ (patent pending). The technology, designed primarily for body armor, produces what the company believes will be the lightest NIJ 0101.06 Level III compliant armor plate in the world, at an incredible 4.4LBs. for the standard model.

"It's truly groundbreaking in the armor industry," said CEO Tom McClure. "The IMAPS system is unlike anything in the world today."

The IMAPS™ features several technological improvements not seen in body armor applications to-date, including a new high-tensile, hard shell outer liner which provides unsurpassed fracture resistance, chemical resistance, environmental protection, and fire retardency.

McClure explains that coated armors using hot-spray solutions like Line-X or Rhino Liner can provide the environmental protection you want for PE and Aramid-based armor but most of them have a tendency to fragment on the backface when struck. "It's better than getting hit by a bullet but it can still cause problems if you aren't wearing a trauma pad or soft armor," McClure said. "Cordura liners are lighter and cheaper to apply but don't offer the kind of environmental and UV protection that meets the Midwest standard. That's why we set out to find a better solution, which we now have. We're extremely happy with the final product."

Like the MASS III line, IMAPS™ body armor will offer zero maintenance and an extended warranty of ten years. IMAPS plates will also utilize technological advances that increase positive buoyancy and greatly reduce backface deformation experienced by the wearer during a ballistic impact.

The IMAPS™ technology is currently being reviewed by the Army Rapid Innovation program for possible adaptation to a level IV platform or special missions requiring a lightweight armor solution.

Although the IMAPS™ R&D program was kept under wraps, post-development demand for the product is already very high. Midwest expects to begin filling distributor pre-orders by shipping the first plates early in Q1 2012. Having seen great success with their EXO Special Threat concealable plate, released in the second half of 2011, along with their MASS III line, Midwest continues to provide new and unique approaches to saving lives with worry-free, lightweight armor solutions.
