70th Annual Day Celebrations at Birla Balika Vidya Peeth BBVP Pilani Rajasthan

For the last 52 years, the one constant in the Republic Day Parade at RajPath Delhi has been the NCC girls’ band from Birla Balika Vidyapeeth Pilani and they are indeed part of what has now become a tradition. Birla Balika Vidya Peeth - BBVP, Pilani Rajasthan established in July 1941 working on modern progressive lines is an English medium Residential Public School for girls. Apart from providing the facilities of modern education, the school is well known for retaining the best traditions of India’s rich traditional heritage.

Besides the training of intellect, the school puts great emphasis on sound health of the students and imparts Physical Training, Yoga, Hockey, Horse-Riding, Lawn Tennis, Judo, Swimming etc to the enrolled students. The school children regularly participate in National Integration Camps as well as Trekking camps. The school maintains two troops of Junior N.C.C. (Army wing) comprising of about 200 cadets.

On 03 December 2011, BBVP Pilani celebrated the 70th Annual Day Function with an Outdoor program followed by indoor program. The Chief Guest for the outdoor program was Dr Sudhakar Konda, Vice President, New Biopharmaceuticals Research and Development Centre, Panacea Biotech New Delhi. The Chief Guest was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the passing out students of class XII of the school led by Miss Juhi Singhal, Miss Pooja Natarajan and Miss Akansha Rathi and its indeed a matter of pride that all three of them had been band leaders at the Jan 26 Republic Day Parade Raj Path Delhi in different years.

The students did a spectacular outdoor program which included yoga, ribbon drill, calisthenics exercise with hoops, aerobics, dandia dance, as well as the famous Pilani band display. The highlights of the celebrations included inauguration of the exhibition meticulously put up by the students of the school.

The evening indoor program in the auditorium of the school included customary lamp lighting and invocation of the almighty, Ma Tuijhe Salam, Orchestra, Bharatnatyam dance, Western Dance, Punjabi Dance, Puppet Dance, Patriotic Song, Kathak Dance, Bengali Dance and Rajasthani Dance. Dr (Mrs) Kasturi Principal of the School presented the Annual Report of the School highlighting the salient achievements. Miss Isha Yadav and Miss Deepshikha Chettri did an excellent job of anchoring the entire proceedings.

When the students who had excelled in various curricular and extracurricular activities received the prizes, the audience responded by giving a thunderous round of applause. Prominent among the audience included Shri S K Birla, Smt Sumangala Birla, Col V N Ratnakar Director Birla Education Trust (BET), Deputy Directors of BET, Director Birla Museum, Principals of various Pilani schools, Dr Pramod Sehgal CMO MS Eye Hospital and Prof BR Natarajan Pro Vice Chancellor Shridhar University.

When the celebrations ended with the singing of the National Anthem, parents of the students who were present in the auditorium were indeed beaming with pride as their children were part of an institution which is one among the top ranking schools in India today.
