The Commons Club at The Brooks to Accept Gold Level Award from

The Commons Club Fitness Center and Spa’s Innovative Living a Healthy Life (LHL) Program Helps Membership of 2,300 Achieve Health Initiative Award.

Bonita Springs, FL – November 30, 2011 – The American Heart Association will present the Fit-Friendly Company Gold Level Award to The Commons Club at The Brooks with a media event at 4:30 PM on Thursday, December 8th at The Commons Club Gazebo, 9930 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL.

As a Gold Level recipient The Commons Club has demonstrated the importance of a healthy community and workplace. By developing the Living a Healthy Life (LHL) program, The Commons Club Fitness Center and Spa have created a culture of physical activity and wellness. The LHL program is designed to provide an opportunity for a membership of 2,300 to change their lives without changing their lifestyles.

The LHL program is designed to be a long-term change, not a short term intervention. Each participant agrees to record their daily eating habits on dotFIT.com, an online fitness program and nutrition website.

Cathy Moschetto, The Commons Club Fitness Center and Spa’s Director of Operations, partnered with local area hospitals including, Bonita Community Health Center (BCHC) and Naples Community Hospital (NCH) to provide lecture series and health tests for the LHL program. These tests include blood pressure, resting/recovering heart rate, blood glucose test, postural assessment as well as functional assessments. With physicians providing assessments that are measurable the personal trainers are able to take that information and build a short-term and long-term goal.

Seminars are conducted periodically during the program to educate and motivate on the benefits of exercise and healthy eating. “Once you understand how to fuel your body the proper way, and the correlation it has with physical health and mental wellness, you begin to realize how important this becomes in your life,” said Marti Peters, LHL Program Director at The Commons Club.

“My goal was for this community to be the healthiest community in Southwest Florida,” Stated Mrs. Moschetto. “The results show that we had multiple participants who have reduced or eliminated their blood pressure and cholesterol medicines after completion of the program.”

“While these may be small changes today, think about the impact they would have on your health years from now,” stated Dr. Kathy Wilson, Concierge of Internal Medicine. They are also encouraged to purchase an Exerspy, a dotFit device that records sleeping habits and daily activity level as measured by caloric output.

“I had a triple by-pass in 2006 which caused me to review my life. I made a conscious effort to lose weight, and I did, only to see it move back in the same area in two years. This is the easiest and best program I’ve ever seen, and makes our Commons Club membership even more valuable,” said Tony Romanovich, LHL Alumni and Commons Club member.
