DEAL OF THE DAY START-UP MAKES ART AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE

HOUSTON, Texas – A new deal of the day start-up, The Great Canvas, is selling hand painted replicas of famous art to the nationwide public. Some examples of their daily deal paintings thus far include works by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Claude Monet. Every 2’ x 3’ deal-of-the-day painting to date has been listed for less than $100.

The foundation of the company is based on the principle of quality paintings that everyone can afford. "Art is expressive and it is very important that the consumer feels the emotion of the painting and not the emotion of a financial burden,” said Krish Himmatramka, co-founder of The Great Canvas. “The purpose here is to give everyone the chance to own a couple of the paintings they always loved growing up, not to empty their wallet."

Despite being hand painted and using the same brush strokes as the original artists, the company’s art is not expected to appreciate, as replica art rarely has. The company states that the paintings are for decoration and aesthetics purposes. The website states it takes approximately 5-7 weeks to deliver the paintings including painting time, drying time, and shipping.

In addition to hand painted reproductions, the company offers hand painted custom paintings. "Customers can upload a picture of anything, and we can hand paint it for them," explained Sabih Shariff, also a co-founder. "We've painted some amazing patriotic moments, a few family portraits, and even captured a couple of the most iconic moments in the history of sports."

The company strives to educate their customers about the history behind these famous works of art as well and believes that offering a painting a day makes it easier to learn about artists. "It is a great learning tool because by getting details on just one painting a day, people learn and remember facts about the artist. If we offered many paintings, people could become overwhelmed with data and confuse different paintings and artists," said Himmatramka. "If customers like the painting and want to buy it, then great! But if they don't buy it, that is still perfectly fine because at least they learned a few interesting facts."
