A long-time advocate of interfaith dialogue, Father Cuenin is a leader in the Boston area in the effort to promote tolerance and human rights. He has long advocated outreach to gays and lesbians in the Catholic Church, writing in a 1997 document issued by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, "the teachings of the Church make it clear that the fundamental human rights of homosexual persons must be defended." Ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1970 at St. Peter’s in Rome, Cuenin received a doctorate in sacred theology at the Gregorian University. He is currently the pastoral leader of the Catholic community at Brandeis University. He came to Brandeis after serving the Archdiocese of Boston over many years in several parishes in Massachusetts, in North Andover, Lexington, Marlborough, and, most recently, in Newton.

Stonewall Communities, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization, was created to build community for and with LGBT seniors and their friends and to better understand and advocate for their needs. We are in the vanguard, working to create residential, educational, social and support opportunities for older LGBTs and their friends.
