Waste from high value projects has been a feature of recent work for the specialist collections, clearance and recycling company, Waste King.

Waste King’s uniformed, Environment Agency-licensed staff began by recycling 1.1 tons of props and 15 cubic yards of mixed waste from the set of a ‘prank-themed’ TV show being shot by an independent company for Sky TV.

They then moved on to collect 18 yards of mixed waste, including packaging, from some kitchen installations in nearby Harpenden. The new kitchen installations were from kitchen company, Tsunami (http://www.tsunamiuk.com/) and, typically, cost over £100,000.

Waste King director, Andy Cattigan, said: “We’ve done quite a bit of work now for film production companies – both those working on TV shows and those whose work is aimed at a cinema audience.

“But, whether we’re working with the stars or working on ‘lower budget’, more ‘mundane’ projects, our staff always take time to ensure that the maximum amount of waste can be recycled and that all the waste we collect is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

“That’s why we can now guarantee to recycle over 84 per cent of all the waste we collect from every job we do – and, currently, that rate is nearer 89 per cent,” he added.

“Our policy is to recycle or re-use any of the waste products we collect, wherever this is possible. We believe that this is an environmentally friendly and responsible way to behave.”

Cattigan’s colleague, Glenn Currie, commented: “Separating our customers’ waste means that we can maximise the amount of that waste that can be recycled – which can only be beneficial for the environment. In turn, this reduces the amount of our customers’ waste that goes to landfill.

“Separating the waste materials when we collect them makes it easier - and often cheaper – for us to dispose of these materials,” he added. “Moreover, it means that – if they want to - customers can get accurate audits of their waste.”

Waste King provides a wide range of waste collection and recycling services for both domestic and commercial clients including house clearances, office clearance, shop refurbishments, general rubbish removal, garden & garage clearance, wait & load and skip hire, as well as services to companies in the fields of property management and maintenance; interior design; specialist renovation, and general construction.

Its recycling and waste collection services include waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collections and site waste management plans (SWMP). The company also offers confidential document destruction.
