Sunrise Senior Living Bowls for a Cause to Benefit Alzheimer’s Association Long Island

Sunrise Senior Living in West Babylon is spearheading a bowling event for the rest of the Sunrise communities that will take place November 3 at 300 Long Island, 895 Walt Whitman Road in Melville, from 1-3 p.m. The event will raise money for Alzheimer’s Association Long Island.

The cost is $25 per person, which includes shoe rental, a slice of pizza, soda and two hours of bowling. All proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s Association Long Island to help support a wide range of Alzheimer’s related programs for the thousands of local families and caregivers affected by this disease and the 2011 Walk to End Alzheimer’s/Oktoberfest. Sunrise Senior Living in West Babylon took part in the Walk on September 10 and raised funds for AALI.

Those who cannot attend can make a donation to AALI. Reservations must be made by October 20.

Currently, 5.4 million people in this country have Alzheimer’s disease and more than 60,000 of them reside on Long Island. By the middle of this century, it is estimated that approximately 14-16 million people will have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease; 1 out of 8 baby boomers is at risk.

“Sunrise recognizes the special needs of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other related memory impairments,” said Debra Ferrara, Director of Community Relations, Sunrise Senior Living in West Babylon. “We want to help our seniors attain what we call ‘pleasant days.’ We are proud to support Alzheimer’s Association Long Island and the programs the organization offers to those affected by the disease, their caregivers and their families.”
