Cruisin' Hall of Fame Inductees Announced for California's Largest Cruisin' Classic Car Show

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. (April 10, 2007)– The Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous® proudly announced its 2007 Cruisin’ Hall of Fame Inductees: Sam & Chip Foose (Builder/Designer category), K&N Engineering, Inc., (Manufacturer category), Drive! Magazine (Media category), the Art of Pinstriping (Historical category) and Lifetime Achievement honorees Wally and Barbara Parks.

The inductees will be honored at the Cruisin’ Hall of Fame Brunch & Induction Ceremony on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Hilton Hotel, 285 E. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino, at 9:00 a.m. To make reservations, call the Route 66 office at (909) 388-2934; the cost is $25.00 per person.

Scheduled for September 13-16, 2007, the Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous is the largest cruisin’ classic car show on the West Coast with 1,900 hot rods, classics, and custom cars cruising the 35-blocks of downtown San Bernardino, California. Entertainment, sponsor displays, legendary guests, contests and commercial exhibitors transform San Bernardino into an automotive paradise. The event is free for spectators. The Route 66 Rendezvous Cruisin’ Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those who have made a significant contribution to the automotive industry and the uniquely American cultural phenomenon of cruising. The San Bernardino Convention & Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with the City of San Bernardino, established the Cruisin’ Hall of Fame in 1995. A landmark area called the “Route 66 Plaza,” was created just outside City Hall as a backdrop for the Cruisin' Hall of Fame. A specially designated wall, with a map of “America’s Main Street,” serves as the actual monument.

Builder/Designer category: Sam & Chip Foose
The father and son team of Sam and Chip Foose is world-renown for their unique automotive designs and creativity. Chip is renowned for his designs and as the star of the TLC series Overhaulin’. Sam and Chip continue their collaboration at Foose Design.

Manufacturer category: K&N Engineering, Inc.

Historical category: The Art of Pinstriping
Made popular in the mid-forties, especially by Kenny “Von Dutch” Howard, pinstriping is a way for owners to artistically create a unique one-of-a-kind look for their vehicle. Today, it is an art form that known no boundaries and is limited only to the imagination, talent, and ingenuity of the individual pinstriper.

Lifetime Achievement: Wally and Barbara Parks
Wally Parks established the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) in the early 1950s. The NHRA was established to promote hot-rodding in arenas where the environment was controlled and safety issues and training could be addressed. Members of the NHRA, chosen by Parks, traveled cross-country in what first became known as the Drag Safari and then the Safety Safari. Parks, as editor of Hot Rod Magazine, used the magazine to get the word out about the NHRA. Through it all, Parks’ wife, Barbara, was there to support him and contribute to the success of the NHRA. As a testament to his dedication to motor sports, the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA, bears his name.
