Leo K. Barnes Jr. & Matthew J. Barnes Selected for Inclusion on the 2011 Super Lawyers Rising Stars List
Attorneys Leo K. Barnes Jr. and Matthew J. Barnes, founding members of the boutique commercial litigation law firm Barnes & Barnes, P.C. in Melville, New York, have been named to the 2011 Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for the New York metropolitan area.Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of professional achievement as determined by a multi-phased selection process. Rising Stars names the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys. Leo was named a Rising Star in Business Litigation and Matthew was named a Rising Star in Construction Litigation. No more than 2.5% of the attorneys in New York State are named to the Rising Stars list.
Leo focuses on breach of contract, commercial tort, unfair competition and business fraud claims, and represents clients in complex commercial litigation matters, including RICO claims, sophisticated commercial fraud, claims premised upon federal and state statutes, mortgage fraud, the Martin Act and multi-district litigation. He frequently litigates restrictive covenant claims, non-competition and unfair competition matters, trade secret and breach of duty of loyalty actions for both the plaintiff and defense, and likewise pursues and defends claims seeking provisional relief related to the same.
Matthew represents small, mid-sized and large national organizations in his clients’ construction and business litigation claims, and corresponding transactions, involving commercial real estate developers and construction firms. In addition, Matthew frequently litigates business dissolutions, partnership disputes, complex labor law, lien law, breach of contract and related claims in the construction industry, including but not limited to claims involving non-payment, extra work, acceleration or delay, and surety rights.
